Located in the north of Spain, and an integral part of the Cider Region (Comarca de la Sidra), Villaviciosa lives up to its name, sinonymous for "fertile land", being situated at the convergence of a number of abundant and fertile valleys. The town is on the estuary of the river by the same name, with the Cantabrian sea making its way inland over the 7 km at high tides. The estuary is a declared Natural Protected Space, with a wide variety of aquatic birdlife. A number of diverse activities, like canoeing, hiking and boat trips are also enjoyed. At the river mouth, one of Asturias´ most beautiful beaches is to be found. The Playa de Rodiles is a one kilometre stretch of golden sand, backed by an ample area of picnic tables, under the trees, for those who prefer shade, whilst enjoying the gentle sea breeze.
For those with an interest in art and history, Villaviciosa is one of the most important areas when referring to the Asturian Preromanesque and Romanesque eras. Visits to the nearby 9th century Preromanesque Church of San Salvador (known locally as el Conventin), in Valdedios, San Juan de Amandi, and many more, can be made on foot or by car.

If guests prefer a quiet stroll through the old part of town, there are numerous old family homes within a stones throw of the hotel, still bearing a variety of carved stone family coats of arms. The Apple and Cider monument, by Mariano Benlliure, and of course, the Church of Santa Maria de la Oliva, example of the architectural transition from Romanesque to Gothic, are some of the many interesting sites to be found within Villaviciosa.
Villaviciosas geographic position makes it many peoples preffered choice as a base from which to spend unforgetteble days, being perfectly situated for excursions to Asturias´main attractions: Covadonga and the Picos de Europa, Ribadesella and Llanes, and of course, the cities of Oviedo and Gijón.
